WELCOME
We reach the final half term of the 2009-10 academic year. It doesn't seem so long since I was writing to welcome you at the beginning of the year in September and informing you of our good GCSE results! Here we are with our students in the middle of their exams. Good luck to all those involved, Years 11, 12 and 13 and some Year 10 students. Thank you to parents, carers and other family members who have been supporting our young people through this crucial time in their school career. I expect you will all be relieved when this tense period is over and the remaining concerns are around prom dresses and transport to the venue!
We will soon be welcoming new students and parents/carers to the school in preparation for the new term in September. We hope to reassure you so that sons and daughters do not spend the summer worrying about coming up to secondary school. We work closely, at this time of year, with our primary partners to ensure we know as much as possible about the new students, their talents, interests and needs.
Thank you to those parents who took part recently at Parents' Forum in an excellent discussion about SPC and its future. Below are some of the points made:
What the school does well
Friendly and welcoming / warm atmosphere
A safe, secure environment
Care for the children and support to reach individual potential
Very good teaching / teachers approachable and positive
Buildings and facilities – old and new
Extra curricular activities & good library facilities
Additional Y11 study support
What would make the school even better
Improved communication through website, newsletters, information events
Greater consistency in setting and follow-up of homework
Ensure students are aware of what actions have been taken to deal with the poor behaviour of a small minority of students
More regular consultations with subject teachers across all years
More social spaces for students (and parents)
Your views are always important to us and we will continue to ask you what you think about school – your school. Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any concerns and we will make sure you are put in touch with the most appropriate person to talk to about it.
May I thank you all for your continuing support.
