WELCOME
Welcome to Sewell Park College and a new era in the life of our school.
I am delighted to welcome back students and parents from last year and students and parents new to the school.
It is great to see students in the new Sewell Park uniform looking smart and more mature and to hear their comments about how wearing the new uniform makes them feel more positive about being at school. Members of the public have been in touch with us to tell us how much smarter they think the uniform is. Thank you to parents for supporting us in making changes which we know will improve outcomes for our students.
The new buildings already provide a spectacular 21st century working environment for students in Science, Design and Dance and the new Mathematics and Modern Languages suites have been opened sucessfully. Finally, after 35 years, we are operating on one site.
We were pleased with our GCSE results last year which show a marked increase on the previous year and provide the foundation for even better results in 2009. Many students achieved 11+ good grades and we had some outstanding individual performances, the best ever. As ever the link between good attendance and attainment is marked and we seek the support of parents in ensuring students' attendance is excellent. It is also pleasing to see a large number of our Kett Sixth Form students heading off to university after achieving good A level grades.
This year more than ever our emphasis is on hard work and academic achievement. Homework is high on our agenda and we need parents to help establish a work pattern out of school so that all set work is done. We also hope parents will encourage students to attend additional sessions we will be running out of school hours, particularly in Y11, and that students and parents will make full use of our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).
I look forward to an outstanding year.
